The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) established the Jake Cartwright Leadership Scholarship in 2015 to support candidates in the association’s Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) program. The scholarship, which is underwritten by Solairus Aviation, will fund up to four CAM candidates, paying for all certification costs. NBAA Charities will administer the scholarship.
The scholarship is named in honor of Solairus Vice Chairman Jake Cartwright. The highly respected industry veteran has played a pivotal role in growing the company’s domestic and international business. A former commercial pilot and Marine Corps aviator who served in Vietnam, Cartwright previously was president and CEO of TAG Aviation USA.
“Supporting the creation of future certified aviation managers is an ideal way to recognize one of private aviation’s true pioneers,” said Solairus CEO Dan Drohan. “Jake is an extraordinary leader with an amazing story and has contributed immeasurably to our industry over the last three decades. We are excited to honor his legacy by helping aspiring CAMs who demonstrate exceptional leadership within the business aviation community. Supporting the CAM model is something Jake has always championed, and we are proud to establish this scholarship in his name.”
This scholarship will be awarded by October 2024 and will be redeemable under the conditions established by NBAA and Solairus Aviation. Funds for this scholarship will total $1,799 for one person and will cover the cost of the CAM application, CAM Study Guide and CAM exam registration fee. Funds will also be provided for recipients to register for the 2024 NBAA Business Aviation Exhibition & Convention (NBAA-BACE). Recipients are responsible for other costs associated with the scholarship, such as travel and lodging expenses. NBAA scholarship applicants are limited to receiving one award per person, every other year. For instance winners of a scholarship in 2023 are not eligible in 2024, but will be in 2025.
Applicants must be eligible to take the CAM exam within two years of the date of the scholarship award. They must also meet the minimum qualifications to take the CAM exam by submitting a completed CAM application to NBAA. Learn more about CAM requirements.
