Emily Herron was born into aviation as a third-generation pilot and owner of a Piper J3 Cub originally purchased by her grandfather. She never intended on a career in aviation but was asked to serve on her local airport’s board. Herron learned the ropes of airport management and eventually went on to chair the board. She now serves as airport manager at Kentucky’s Henderson City-County Airport (EHR), where she has overseen facility upgrades and growth. Herron also serves as a local ambassador for business aviation, often speaking with civic organizations to promote the many benefits local airports bring to communities.

“It is very rewarding to connect the local community to the airport and show how important general aviation is to rural communities,” Herron said. “Many people don’t know there is an airport in their community. I get to share the airport’s activity and the related economic impact. I love telling people about the business that happens in a community because there’s an airport nearby.”
