Orlando, FL – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) presented its top honors for excellence in journalism today at the Association’s 65th Annual Meeting & Convention, being held this week from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 in Orlando, FL.
The 2012 David W. Ewald Platinum Wing Award was presented to Robert Goyer, editor in chief at Flying magazine, and the 2012 NBAA Gold Wing Award was presented to Matt Thurber, senior editor of AIN Publications.

This year’s recipient, Robert Goyer, has served Flying with professionalism and dedication since 1995, becoming its editor in chief in 2010. His monthly opinion submissions and weekly online posts have enjoyed widespread popularity in all corners of general aviation.
Goyer’s passion for aviation is demonstrated by the hundreds of feature stories he’s written and illustrated with photography over the years, and by his ability to cover the diversity of business aviation with depth and insight.
Bringing first-hand knowledge to his writing, Goyer has not only piloted dozens of turbine-powered aircraft over the years, but also flown a wide variety of homebuilt, ultralight and other general aviation aircraft.
Gold Wing Award for Reporting Excellence
NBAA’s 2012 Gold Wing award was given to Matt Thurber for a story titled “Saving Lives, One Flight at a Time” about business aviation’s role in organ transport, originally published in the August/September 2011 issue of Business Jet Traveler. The article highlights the key role that chartered aircraft and their operators play in the delivery of human organs that are desperately needed for transplants.
