NBAA congratulated Tyson Weihs, co-founder and former CEO of ForeFlight, a Boeing Company, who will be honored with the 2023 Armstrong Award from the National Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHF).

“Tyson Weihs has pioneered the use of mobile technologies to inform flight planning and operations for pilots and flight departments around the world, increasing aviation safety and growing the pilot population in the process,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “NBAA is thrilled that the National Aviation Hall of Fame has selected him for this prestigious and well-deserved honor.”

Weihs, who serves on NBAA’s Board of Directors, has also been a recipient of the Eren Ozmen Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Godfrey L. Cabbot Award and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association General Aviation Safety Award for measurably improving the safety of flight. A member of the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, Weihs also serves on the boards of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

Weihs is an active instrument-rated turbojet pilot who holds multiple type ratings for business aviation aircraft. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a computer science degree from Trinity University in San Antonio and has an MBA from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Management.

ForeFlight, which Weihs founded in his garage in 2007, is today the market-leading provider of integrated flight applications for personal, business, military and commercial aviation. The aviation resource features information about airports, air traffic control facilities, navigational aids, weather conditions and other content.

Weihs will receive the NAHF Armstrong award on Sept. 21, 2023, as part of the organization’s 59th Enshrinement events. The NAHF Enshrinee Class of 2023 includes Velta Benn, Cornelius Coffey, Angela Gittens, Ed Stimpson, Fred Haise and Kathryn Sullivan.
