“Empowering business aviation leaders by building relationships”

In 2018, NBAA will be launching a national mentoring network that will match qualified industry veterans with mentees pursuing business aviation careers, with the aim of fostering a collaborative environment for professional growth. Participants will be matched based on location, industry objectives and other factors to provide an engaging and fulfilling experience.

NBAA is currently seeking applicants for the first phase of the program. The deadline for the initial application phase is Nov. 10, 2017. Before applying, please read the:

Thanks for your interest in NBAA’s mentoring program. We’re excited about the opportunity to facilitate valuable professional mentorships all across the country. If you have any questions, please contact us at mentoring@nbaa.org.

Program Overview

The NBAA Mentoring Network is designed to help business aviation professionals grow in their roles and within the industry. Mentoring in the modern era is a collaborative partnership between an experienced individual and someone who desires to learn – a mentor is no longer someone who dictates the way things should be to a younger or less experienced individual. Likewise, a mentee is no longer a passive receiver, but instead is an active learner. Mentoring relationships are driven by the needs and ambition of the mentee, as the two will work together over the course of the program to achieve specific, defined goals that focus on developing the mentee.

Participants will complete the four stages to the mentoring process; preparation, collaboration, growth, and closure. For more information on each stage, read:

The 2018 Mentoring Network will use the following timeline for the program:

  • November 10, 2017 – Applications close
  • December 11, 2017 – You will be notified of your mentee
  • December 18, 2017 – Confirm your mentee selection
  • January 8, 2018 – The program kicks off, at which point your mentee will reach out to schedule your first meeting
  • June 29, 2018 – The program concludes

Getting Involved

Interested individuals can sign up by completing an application (see links below) before November 10th, which will be submitted to the NBAA Mentoring Steering Group.

Once the application period closes, the Mentoring Steering Group will examine the list of mentors and the list of mentees to create pairs that will best help mentees learn and grow in the desired areas. After determining the best matches, each party will be independently notified that a match has been found with some background on their partner. The mentor may decide that the mentee would benefit more from someone else, or that they no longer have the capacity to commit to being a good mentor. When both parties agree it will be a good fit to accomplish the goals of the mentee, a confirmation email will be sent with contact information for each party. It will be the responsibility of the mentee to reach out to the mentor to set up the first meeting.
