Most organizations are already far along in establishing a formal Safety Management System (SMS) – they just don’t realize it. They have an operations manual, SOPs, training objectives and aircraft maintenance procedures. Most are aware of personal safety in the workplace, environmental concerns and security concerns, both domestic and abroad. Aviation professionals are prepared to recognize situations that would elevate risk, such as fatigue, bad weather and pressure from others. With all these things well in hand, what operators need is organization, structure and a way to develop missing elements.

The purpose of this course is to acquaint participants with the principles of safety management systems (SMS) and to help them understand how to transform their current safety program into a functioning, living, breathing SMS. This one-day course will be of interest to management, flight and maintenance personnel, and safety officers who wish to develop a formal SMS.

Volunteer to Pack “Ana’s Baskets”

The 7th annual SDC Pay-It-Forward program provides attendees and exhibitors several opportunities to contribute in a charitable manner to the host city and local community. This year we are asking volunteers to participate in packing “Ana’s Baskets” to benefit Safe Haven of Tarrant County, a non-profit organization that exists to end domestic violence through safety, support, prevention and social change. These “Ana’s Baskets” – laundry baskets filled with household cleaning supplies – will assist survivors in beginning a new life free of domestic violence.

The baskets are named for Ana, a survivor of domestic violence and former client and resident of Safe Haven and are provided free of charge to families as they exit Safe Haven. We will be using a portion of the meeting space on Tuesday afternoon to fill baskets with household cleaning supplies. We are asking that attendees and exhibitors who are in town and available please come and help us if you have thirty minutes to share during the 2:00pm – 4:00pm event. We are also asking you to consider making a donation to Safe Haven during the conference registration process so that we can pay for the supplies needed to fill the baskets.

Aircraft Performance Basics

While the continent is still in its earliest stages of development as a business aviation market, industry experts are eyeing it for its immense potential. Grand Prize Luncheon

Attendees are invited to participate in Friday’s “Grand Prize Luncheon.” During the conference exhibit hours, participating exhibitors (those who have donated a prize or gift) collect business cards from attendees when they visit their booth. Prior to this luncheon, participating exhibitors will select four business cards – one as the winner and three extra in the event the original winner is not present at the luncheon or has already won another prize. Conference rules require that winners be present to win. As attendees finish lunch, participating companies will assemble in alphabetical order at the stage. One representative from each company will announce their winner at the podium. Once the winner is identified, the attendee will meet the company representative off the stage to claim their prize. All paid attendees and all exhibitors are eligible to participate in the prize drawings. Attendees may win only one prize during the grand prize luncheon. Attendees may not refuse a gift in order to wait to see if they win another prize.

The International Standard for Business Aircraft Handling (IS-BAH) follows the long established structure of the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) and is designed to provide a global system of best practices for ground handlers and operators in support of business aviation. At its core, IS-BAH is designed to not only meet upcoming requirements established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) but delves further into establishing a robust safety management system (SMS) while incorporating NATA’s Safety 1st Ground Audit Program.
