NBAA is seeking mentors and mentees for its mentoring network, a nationwide collaborative effort to promote professional growth for industry newcomers.
Prospective mentors have until Sept. 20 to enroll, and prospective mentees also can enroll through Sept. 20 by creating a profile and searching for and requesting a mentor of their choice.
“NBAA’s mentoring network will provide an important career development opportunity for those who recently entered the business aviation field or are considering doing so,” said Brian Koester, NBAA’s senior manager for flight operations and regulations. “It will also give industry veterans the rewarding chance to give back to their community.”
The mentoring network also will help improve workforce retention at a time when business aviation faces a significant personnel shortage, especially for pilots and maintenance technicians, Koester said.
Mentors are volunteers who should be willing to give at least an hour a month during the nine-month program, which runs from September through May. Regular engagement by phone, email or, when possible, in person, will maximize the program’s benefit to mentees. Mentees are able to review potential mentors and request the individual who is most suited to their mentoring needs.
Topics covered during the nine-month relationship may include operational excellence, business specialties, leadership experience or other mentee-driven goals. Participants are encouraged to discuss and fill out the mentoring agreement, which outlines meeting frequency, goals and confidentiality.
Mentees must be at least 18 years old. There is no cost to participate in the program.
