The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) recently canceled its 2020 Air Academy, scheduled to occur mid-June through August, due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

The EAA Air Academy is a series of weeklong camps for students ages 12-18, intended to introduce young people to aviation. Campers stay at the EAA Air Academy Lodge in Oshkosh, WI, and are completely immersed in the world of aviation.

The EAA said in a release, “While this was an enormously difficult decision and is a disappointment to us all, the health and safety of our campers and a fulfilling camp experience were our priorities for the young people involved.”

Air Academy campers who were participating in the academy this summer may reserve a place in the 2021 Air Academy.

The Air Academy is recognized by MSN Money as one of 10 summer camps “worth the money.” It is just one of EAA’s youth initiatives, including EAA GirlVenture Camp for young women; Boy Scout and Girl Scout programs; and Night Flight, an opportunity to sleep in the EAA Aviation Museum alongside the airplanes.
