Aug. 19, 2020

Today (Aug. 19) is National Aviation Day in the U.S., the annual celebration of Orville Wright’s birthday. This year, NBAA is not only acknowledging the contributions of aviation’s pioneers, but is underscoring the priorities that will carry the industry forward. The following are some of the day’s highlights for the association and industry.

A Workforce That Gives Back

As part of the lead-up to the day, NBAA’s Young Professionals (YoPros) have been sharing on social media the ways they’ve given back through various local and other industry initiatives. The association will continue that conversation on social media today, with a virtual Helpy Day, in which people can share more pay-it-forward stories on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and discuss their plans for giving back, by considering August 19 a day of service. Register to participate.

A Community That Celebrates Diversity

NBAA will also highlight on social media the many remarkable aviation figures, from all walks of life, and all around the world, who’ve left an indelible mark on the industry. That said, the association views that day as an opportunity to highlight the invaluable contributions from today’s leaders, so we hope you’ll join us in that effort.

An Emphasis on Sustainability

Today, a business aviation coalition is introducing a new product focused on furthering the development, production and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). The introduction of the product, titled Fueling the Future, precedes further sustainability related announcements coming in the days ahead.

A Focus on the Future

Business aviation is marked by an innovative spirit, and as much as anything, milestone moments like National Aviation Day offer an opportunity to plan for the future. NBAA is promoting perspectives – such as How the Pandemic Is Changing the Business Jet Market, published in the July/August edition of the association’s Business Aviation Insider magazine – in which aviation veteran Cyrus Cigari considers the industry’s potential, in this COVID moment and beyond.

“We invite everyone in the industry to celebrate with us today, recognizing the pioneers who created aviation and acknowledging the opportunities that business aviation has given each one of us,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “Let’s also redouble our efforts to create an even better future for our community and the world as a whole,” he concluded.
