The FAA has issued a NOTAM reminding all operators arriving to the United States of the Jan. 26 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) order regarding COVID-19 testing and quarantine requirements for all passengers.
NBAA and other aviation organizations advocated for the NOTAM’s publication in order to raise awareness of the CDC mandates in a format commonly referenced by pilots.
“The FDC NOTAM system is used infrequently, but sensibly, for other national priority issues, including security policies and procedures,” said Doug Carr, NBAA’s vice president of regulatory and international affairs. “We believe that publication of this NOTAM will aid operators in complying with the CDC COIVD testing mandates since pilots typically review applicable NOTAMs during pre-flight planning.”
The NOTAM does not establish new requirements or change the CDC policies. Instead, it reminds operators and passengers of the prohibition on embarking any air passenger on a flight to the U.S. from a foreign country unless the passenger presents evidence of a negative test result or has recovered from COVID-19 within the previous three months.
The NOTAM encourages operators to become familiar with the contents of the CDC order, including applicability and exemptions of the order, criteria of a qualifying test and documentation requirements.
The NOTAM, which was issued “in support of extraordinary public health measures in the face of a global pandemic,” is effective until replaced or rescinded.
