NBAA commends U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) on his continuing efforts to introduce reforms focused on the concerns of pilots and others in the general aviation (GA) community, while enhancing the safety and efficiency of GA operations in the U.S.
The senator recently outlined his Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 (PBOR2) on his official website, with the stated goal of continuing to address unfair practices and regulations toward& the aviation industry. Find out more about Sen. Inhofe’s Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 by visiting the senator’s official website.
“Sen. Inhofe is a long-time champion of general aviation, and a key member of the Senate General Aviation Caucus,” said Dick Doubrava, NBAA vice president, government affairs. “Just as NBAA welcomed passage of Sen. Inhofe’s Pilot’s Bill of Rights two years ago, we support the senator’s intentions in the PBOR2, which contains provisions that would be beneficial to our members in the business aviation community.”
As one example, Doubrava noted that the senator indicates that, in considering various components of a PBOR2 bill, he would like to open “a dialogue on language that will make it easier to install new, safety-enhancing equipment on existing aircraft without going through a lengthy, expensive certification process.” This would be a positive development for NBAA Members, noted Doubrava, who often want to equip their aircraft with the latest avionics equipment in the interest of enhancing flight safety.
NBAA also noted the senator’s support of restricting Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) stops and searches of general aviation, and requiring CBP to follow general law enforcement standards when exercising its powers.
Just as NBAA was supportive of Inhofe’s request for a NOTAM Improvement Program in the first PBOR, the Association now lauds the senator on his insistence that NOTAM violations should not be enforced unless the FAA finishes its NOTAM improvement program by the end of the year.
Sen. Inhofe’s first Pilot’s Bill of Rights was signed into law on Aug. 3, 2012. Read NBAA’s statement supporting Inhofe’s first Pilot’s Bill of Rights.
“We appreciate Sen. Inhofe’s continued, dedicated efforts on behalf of our industry, and we look forward to working with him on this latest initiative supporting general aviation,” Doubrava concluded.
