The Artistry of Positive Change: The Top Three Habits of Agile Leaders

Presented by: Carla Rieger

Unexpected change can cause underperformance in leaders at all levels of a company. It is easy to become reactive and problem-focused and feel defeated in challenging situations. After 11 years of research, Carla Rieger has identified the top three habits of leaders who stay solutions-oriented, centered and agile in the face of challenges.

Carla calls these people “Change Artists.” The skills of a Change Artist don’t actually need to be learned. They are innate skills that we just need to remember to access. These habits of mind require little or no time or money if you can train your brain to stay in a high-performance state, no matter what. The Artistry of Change® is an innovative system that blends diverse fields such as educational kinesiology, western and eastern psychology, change management theory, creative process models, and neuroscience. These fields are merging in exciting ways to produce what we call the indispensable “Change Artist.” Become one and you can bring your organization to the next level of excellence.

During this entertaining, interactive and practical keynote, you will discover how to:

  • Think more resourcefully when faced with seemingly impossible tasks.
  • Help yourself and others move from a reactive to a solutions-oriented response when change hits.
  • Create a culture of innovation in which open communication and engagement is the norm.

Leadership

Presented by: Darby Allen

We all face emergencies and crises. Darby Allen shows us how to overcome them. In the spring of 2016, Darby was Regional Fire Chief of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Canada, an area that encompasses the community of Fort McMurray. He spearheaded the evacuation of the city’s entire population (88,000 residents) with no loss of life while the rest of the world anxiously watched. Throughout the ensuing weeks of operations, he worked tirelessly with first responders and volunteers, who came from across the nation (and globe) to assist. He became known as the face of the Alberta wildfires—and widely celebrated as a national hero. His updates to the media were not only a means of reliable information, but a source of optimism. Darby provided calm reassurance as the lead spokesperson throughout the rescue efforts and was a great example of selfless courage and level-headedness under pressure. Now, he offers guidance on how to be a stoic, quick-thinking leader in tough situations.

WORKSHOP: The Art of Communication: Empowering People to Use Differences Toward Collaborative Solutions

Presented by: Carla Rieger

How and what you say can make or break your leadership agility. Costly communication breakdowns often happen because of simple misunderstandings. If not dealt with, your team can lose forward moment, then productivity, engagement, and the bottom line all suffer. The truth is, diversity of opinions on your team can lead to decisions that are wiser and more sustainable. Remind your team of the effective habits of those who turn differences into innovation. During this engaging and interactive workshop you will discover how to:

  • Practice three simple habits that prevent unwanted communication breakdowns
  • Switch from an atmosphere of tension to a “healthy discussion”
  • Have touchy conversations that lead to positive outcomes
  • Communicate your needs in a way that people are open to hearing
  • Win back trust and create goodwill if it was lost

The Obstacle is the Way

Presented by: Ryan Holiday

Ryan will spend time with us discussing how overcoming obstacles is a discipline of three critical steps that are interdependent, interconnected, and fluidly contingent. The disciplines are:

  1. How we look at our specific problems, including our attitude or approach
  2. The energy and creativity with which we actively break the problems down and turn them into opportunities
  3. Finally, the cultivation and maintenance of an inner will that allows us to handle defeat and difficulty

In mastering these three disciplines, we have the tools to flip any obstacle upside down. Like Rockefeller, we can be cool under pressure, immune to insults and abuse. We learn how to see opportunity in the darkest of places. We are able to direct our actions with energy and persistence. Like Demosthenes, we can assume responsibility for ourselves—teaching ourselves, compensating for disadvantages, and pursuing our rightful calling and place in the world. And like Lincoln, we realize that life is a trial. It will not be easy, but we are prepared and can give it everything.

In short, we can:

  • See things for what they are.
  • Do what we can.
  • Endure and bear what we must.

WORKSHOP – Leadership Agility: What is Executive Presence and How Does It Help Influence and Drive Change?

Presented by: Elizabeth Freedman

What makes some executives stand out, move up or expand their influence? Why are some better able to command a room, earn the trust of others, inspire their best effort, instill confidence and ultimately, get things done? Many people believe intuitively there’s a connection to an elusive trait called “presence.” But what exactly is presence, and how do you know you have it?

In this session, Elizabeth Freedman will reveal breakthrough proprietary research on the essential qualities of executive presence and influence, and how those qualities help leaders communicate, build trust, collaborate and execute more effectively. She will define what presence is, why it matters to leaders, and share what isn’t so obvious about presence, even to the most seasoned of leaders.

This interactive session is focused on providing research-based insights, and practical advice and tools, for leaders who need to win buy-in, influence actions, and build support for initiatives, or who are on point to lead change, drive innovation, or execute major initiatives.

Participants will learn and take away:

  • How the qualities of executive presence, such as Confidence, Resonance, Composure, Vision, Practical Wisdom, and Inclusiveness, can help you win hearts and minds, become a more influential leader, and deliver change and impact
  • Which qualities help you to win trust and goodwill, build credibility, provide visionary direction, collaborate more effectively, and drive execution
  • Which aspects of presence will help you earn credibility to get your ideas heard, and those facets of presence that help you drive execution by getting others to get things done
  • How specific leadership behaviors correlate with important business challenges like leading high-performing teams, innovation, and growth
  • How to think about your own strengths and gaps in positively influencing change in your organizations

The session will provide participants with a practical understanding of the science behind executive presence, and enable you to apply it to your urgent, real-world business challenges back in the office.

Inspiration and Strategy for Rapid Life Improvement

Presented by: Benjamin Hardy

“The purpose of everything I do is to facilitate inspiration and insight—personal revelation—for other people. I believe the purpose of life is to learn, grow, and become. I know that you have the power to change yourself and your life in fundamental and profound ways. I know that you can overcome emotional difficulties that have kept you stuck. You can learn how to learn and expand yourself. You can become the designer of your internal experience and external environment.

The purpose of my work is to help you get clarity for what ultimately matters to you and provide tools for living congruently and courageously. I want you to boldly live a life of meaning and purpose. This is only possible by dedicating yourself to something you deeply believe and by using your convictions to positively impact other people’s lives.

I know you can become a person you love. You can shatter subconscious and emotional blocks through consistent and powerful daily behaviors. You can act every day toward seemingly impossible goals and then watch as all sorts of events and people come into your life to help you achieve those goals. Your life can change in ways you can’t presently imagine. You yourself can become someone far beyond what you can presently imagine.” – Benjamin Hardy
