NBAA recently marked the passing of its first Associate Member company advisor, Scott E. Miller, Sr., who died in August at the age of 93.
For many years, Miller was the head of customer service for Garrett AiResearch, a Southern California company that later merged with AlliedSignal and specialized in servicing, modifying and overhauling aircraft and installing interiors.
Always committed to the growth of business aviation, Miller was the first person to serve as an Associate Member advisor to the NBAA Board of Directors. That role has evolved into today’s Associate Member Advisory Council, a 21-member standing committee vital to the Association’s governance.
Miller got his start in aviation during World War II as an aircraft mechanic for the U.S. Navy. He was quickly made an instructor and began working with Garrett AiResearch immediately after leaving the Navy.
In 1990, Miller received NBAA’s prestigious John P. “Jack” Doswell Award in recognition of his lifetime support of the aims, goals and objectives of business aviation. In 1965, he served as the local chairman of NBAA’s 18th Annual Meeting & Convention.
In addition to his dedication to the industry, Miller was involved in his Los Angeles-area community of Westchester, near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). He was active in the Westchester Chamber of Commerce and president of the local Rotary Club.
Miller is survived by his wife Lila, to whom he was married for 65 years, his daughters Juanita and Jeanie, his sons Scott Jr. and Stacy, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
