Jim Buchanan – CAM Fellow

T. James “Jim” Buchanan, CAM, C.P.M., was Director-Flight Operations Administration for the AT&T corporate aviation department upon his retirement in 2020. Prior to his 27 years in the aviation department, Buchanan had 15 years of service with the AT&T companies in telephone network operations, supply chain and finance. He is a Certified Aviation Manager (CAM), a Lifetime Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). Prior to his service at AT&T, Buchanan worked in finance operations at Ford Motor Credit Company.

Buchanan was elected a Director of the CAM Governing Board in 2011 and served as its Chair from 2014 to 2018. Prior to his retirement, he spoke at industry conferences about professional development and business aviation management. He continues to write and review content for new editions of the CAM Exam.

Buchanan is Adjunct Instructor of Business with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. He previously taught management, finance and accounting as Senior Adjunct Instructor at the San Antonio, Texas campus center of Park University. He received his MBA and BBA in Management from the University of North Texas.

Buchanan served as an AT&T Intern supervisor, a mentor to Teach for America Corps Members, and has volunteered in public, charter and Sunday school classrooms for many years.

A native Texan, Buchanan and his wife Sheryl have been married for over 45 years, have four adult children and an expanding count of grandchildren.
