Board Elections Take Place at NBAA Annual Meeting

Las Vegas, NV, October 11, 2011 – The Voting Membership of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today re-elected 11 directors during its 64th Annual Meeting held today at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Additionally, Richard Shine of Manitoba Corp. succeeded Patrick C. Cunningham of PepsiCo, Inc. as Board chairman, and Ron Duncan of General Communications, Inc. will serve as NBAA’s new vice chairman/treasurer.

Patrick C. Cunningham, director of aviation for PepsiCo, Inc., has more than 25 years of business aviation aircraft maintenance and management experience. He holds an MBA from Manhattan College and a BA in political science from Manhattanville College, and he is a 1996 cum laude graduate of the Pace University School of Law. In addition, Cunningham is an NBAA Certified Aviation Manager (CAM), licensed airframe & powerplant (A&P) technician, and private pilot with more than 15 years’ experience as a cockpit crew member on jet aircraft. He joined the Board in 2002 and has served as chairman since 2009.

Elizabeth Dornak is the manager of flight operations for DuPont Aviation. In addition to serving on the NBAA Board of Directors since 2007, she has experience with NBAA’s Operations Committee and was a member of the Certified Aviation Manager Governing Board. With extensive international experience, she was selected to serve as the NBAA Board’s representative to the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC). Dornak is type rated in Gulfstream, Hawker and Citation aircraft and holds an air transport pilot (ATP) certificate with over 8,000 hours of flight time. She is a graduate of Purdue University and has completed the Aviation Safety Certificate Program at the University of Southern California.

Ronald Duncan is co-founder of General Communication, Inc. (GCI), Alaska’s largest telecommunications provider, and has been president and CEO since 1989. Prior to starting GCI, Duncan founded and was president of an Alaska-based cable television company. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He holds a commercial pilot’s license with SEL&S and MEL ratings and is type rated in CE-560, IA-1125 and G-100 aircraft. In 25 years of flying, Duncan has accumulated 5,000 hours, more than half of which are in turbojets. He joined the Board in 2005.

Bonnie C. Hathcock is senior vice president and chief human resources officer for Humana Inc. Working to create a unique and differentiated culture of engagement, Bonnie Hathcock leads Humana in transforming human capital into a winning competitive advantage. She leads all aspects of human resources for the company and is responsible for corporate business services including Humana’s real estate portfolio and the aviation group. Prior to joining Humana in 1999, Bonnie served in leadership roles at US Airways, Siemens-Rolm and Xerox Corporation. Bonnie was named HR Executive magazine’s 2007 HR Executive of the Year and was recently inducted into the National Academy of Human Resources class of 2010 fellows. Bonnie holds a master’s in business administration and is a graduate of the Executive Human Resources program at Stanford University’s School of Business. She joined the NBAA Board in 2005.

Michael Herman is founder and chairman, North American Communications. Over more than 50 years, Michael Herman has grown privately held North American Communications from a small print shop into an international provider of direct mail manufacturing and distribution to its Fortune 100 customers. Important in Herman’s success has been his use, since acquiring a Lear 23 in 1965, of business aviation for travel. He has accumulated over 15,500 flight hours, earned primarily in multi-engine aircraft, and which includes 3,000 hours in turbojets he has owned and operated. He also is the founder of Bear Air LLC, an owner and operator of jet aircraft and a Business Member of NBAA. Herman has served on the Board since 2005.

Monte J.M. Koch is chairman of mergers and acquisitions for Deutsche Bank, N.A., one of the world’s leading international financial services providers. He also is the founder of Falconshare LLC, an owner and operator of jet aircraft and a Business Member of NBAA. With over two decades of Wall Street experience, Koch has advised on multi-billion dollar merger transactions in virtually every major industry, and has specialized in the lodging, gaming and real estate sectors throughout his career. As the manager of Falconshare LLC, Koch is an experienced owner, operator and avid pilot of piston, twin turboprop and jet aircraft, as well as helicopters. He holds an ATP license and is type rated in the Falcon 10. Koch graduated from The College of William & Mary with a BBA in management. He joined the Board in 2005.

Lloyd “Fig” Newton, is a member of Goodrich Corporation’s board of directors. General Lloyd “Fig” Newton retired in 2000 from the U.S. Air Force as a four-star general. Serving for more than three decades, Newton flew 269 combat missions in Vietnam, flew with the U.S. Air Force Demonstration Team “The Thunderbirds,” served as a congressional liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives for the Air Force and led the Air Education and Training Command, which consisted of 13 bases, 43,000 active duty personnel and 14,000 civilians. After leaving the Air Force, Newton worked at Pratt & Whitney as vice president of international military programs and business development until 2006. In addition to the Goodrich Corporation, Newton serves on the boards of Sonoco Products Company, Torchmark Corporation and the National Air and Space Museum. He was elected to the NBAA Board of Directors in 2010 to fill a vacancy.

Charles Reagan is senior advisor to the president at Kansas State University and holds professorships in both aviation and philosophy. He is ATP rated, and jet rated in the CitationJet. He holds a commercial license with multi-engine and instrument ratings. He also is a certified flight instructor in multi-engine airplanes and instruments. He has been a commuter airline pilot, charter pilot and flight instructor. He received the Kansas Governor’s Aviation Award in 2007 in recognition of his work to build the fleet of the university’s aviation program. As a philosophy professor, he has published seven books. Reagan was first elected to the NBAA Board in 2008.

Richard Shine is the CEO and chief pilot of Manitoba Corporation, a metal recycling company founded by Shine’s grandfather in 1916. The company has been an NBAA Member since 1995, and Shine has said that his business would not exist today were it not for his airplane, a Mitsubishi MU-2. He flew for six years on active duty with the U.S. Air Force, reaching the rank of colonel and flying for the local reserve unit in Niagara Falls. He joined the family business in 1970. Shine was elected to the NBAA Board of Directors in 2008.

John White has served as corporate aviation director for Valero Energy Corporation since 2004. With more than four decades of business aviation experience, White holds an ATP, nine type ratings, an A&P license and a commercial glider license. He has accumulated more than 17,000 flight hours. He spent more than 25 years with Union Pacific Resources, progressing from pilot mechanic to aviation director. White was elected to the NBAA Board of Directors in 2010 to fill a vacancy.

Jeffrey W. Lee is the vice president of flight operations for the American Express Company, which he joined this year after 30 years in the IBM flight department. He earned a bachelor’s of science degree in engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy and was an Air Force flight instructor from 1974 to 1980. Prior to joining the NBAA Board in 2001, he served first as vice chairman and then chairman of NBAA’s Corporate Aviation Management Committee. Lee also served as president of the Westchester Aviation Association from 2003 through 2010. Lee was chairman of the Board of Directors from 2007 to 2009.
