The Michigan Business Aviation Association (MBAA) recently launched a member newsletter to further enhance the association’s communications strategy, and engage with its members about legislative issues in the state and region. The newsletter is one part of MBAA’s continued dedication to promoting business aviation as a critical part of the economic future of Michigan.

Through member communications, such as its member newsletter, the association advocates for airport infrastructure, air transport system capacity, security and other aviation issues in the state.

“The No. 1 issue surrounding our advocacy efforts is that there are legislative matters happening at the state level that affect all sizes of operators that use business aviation, but they’re not aware of the legislation taking place,” said John Flanagan, Dow Chemical Company’s director of corporate aviation and an MBAA board member.

“As an association, MBAA tries to bring everyone together so the lawmakers understand the various views, and hopefully we can move on to a place where everyone is happy with the outcome,” he added.

All regional business aviation groups may take an active role in shaping the legislative agenda in their state, much like MBAA does in Michigan. In the advocacy section of NBAA’s website, regional groups can find information on connecting with the government leaders in their state and the non-flying public.

“I think that regional group newsletters like the one MBAA produces are a very important value component for the organization and provide a needed communication link,” said Bob Quinn, NBAA’s central regional representative. “Group websites are important, but they are a passive link. The newsletter is an active link that can be used as a very effective tool for both information and advocacy.”
