As part of its ongoing Keel Repair Project, New Jersey’s Morristown Airport (MMU) will be repaving the final 3,000 feet of the southern end of Runway 5/23. This work will result in a series of runway closures between May 15 and June 11, as well as the airport being closed to fixed-wing traffic from June 5-11.

The schedule of closures is as follows:

  • May 15 at 6 a.m. through May 19: Runway 13-31 closed (Runway 5-23 will remain open during this time)
  • June 4 at 11 a.m. through June 5 at 12:01 a.m.: Runway 5-23 closed (Runway 31-13 will remain open during this time)
  • June 5 at 12:01 a.m. through June 11 at 12:01a.m.: Closed to fixed-wing traffic
  • June 11 at 12:01 a.m. through 11:59 p.m.: Runway 5-23 closed (Runway 31-13 will remain open during this time)
  • Dates to be determined: Runway 5-23 will be closed for 15 consecutive nights between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The repair project is “designed to stabilize the center 50’ section of the runway in preparation for a larger Runway Rehabilitation project that is scheduled to start in 2018,” according to the airport.
