SIGN UP to volunteer for FEEDING AMERICA’s Backpack Program We have added a new element to the 6th annual S&D Pay-It-Forward program where attendees and exhibitors contribute in a charitable manner to the host city and local community. This year we are asking volunteers to participate in the Feeding America Tampa Bay’s Backpack Program. Thousands of area children receive bags filled with shelf-stable, nutritious food at school to take home for weekends and school vacations. The bags, containing easy-to-prepare meals and snacks, are provided to eligible children free of charge and are distributed at various schools on a weekly basis during the entire school year. We will be using a portion of the exhibit hall on Tuesday afternoon to fill backpacks with food for area children. We are asking that all attendees and exhibitors who are in town and available please come and help us if you have thirty minutes to share during the 2:00p.m.-4:00p.m. event. We are also asking you to consider making a $5 donation to Feeding America during the Conference registration process so that we can pay for the supplies needed to fill the backpacks. Feeding America Tampa Bay (FATB) is the largest hunger relief organization in the community, responsible for serving a food-insecure population of more than 700,000 people in a 10-county area. FATB is also the leading advocacy and education organization working on behalf of hunger. In order to feed those in need, FATB recovers surplus food that would otherwise go to waste from local growers, manufacturers, supermarkets and organized community food drives and distributes it to those in need through a partnership network of more than 600 partner agencies. In 2014, FATB supplied over 46 million pounds of food, enough to provide almost 40 million meals to those who would otherwise go hungry

Our conference theme, "Unlock Your Potential," is the inspiration behind each of the educational sessions offered this week. Every attendee and exhibitor, regardless of their job title, has something to unlock within themselves to help them grow as a business aviation professional. Our keynote speaker, Ty Bennett, CEO, entrepreneur, & best-selling author, will strive to connect and inspire everyone to unlock their potential as he shares his affirmation that “Partnership is the New Leadership.” Over the last five years a survey of more than 5000 leaders were asked one question…”What do you want from your people?” The answer was consistently… commitment. Using case studies of leaders and organizations whose culture and growth is built through partnership-based leadership, Ty Bennett will share proven strategies and techniques to increase overall commitment needed for relationship-building, increasing value, creating buy-in, and improving interpersonal communication. He will focus on the tenet that “people support what they help create.” This general session will also serve an introduction to the second general session that will be on Thursday’s 8:00 a.m. general session where Bob Hobbi, President and CEO of ServiceElements International, Inc. will facilitate aviation scenarios demonstrating challenges that flight department personnel and vendors experience in the workplace.

In today’s global work environment, it is essential that you are aware of the ways in which an understanding, or lack thereof of diversity in all it forms, impacts people’s ability to work effectively. Better understanding your own mindsets and biases can establish the foundation of welcoming and inclusive thoughts, attitudes and actions in your day-to-day interactions with every “body”. Research from the Center for American Progress has shown that welcoming and inclusive work environments are more innovative, competitive, have lower turnover rates, and ultimately strengthen the business bottom line.

Join Bob Hobbi, President and CEO of ServiceElements International, Inc. who will facilitate interactive and realistic aviation scenarios demonstrating challenges that flight department personnel and vendors experience in the workplace. In June 2015 the S&D Committee polled a sampling of schedulers and dispatchers asking them to detail their most frequently recurring challenges when working with coworkers and vendors and also what their top communication-related frustration was when working with associates, management and/or customers? The scenarios that Bob Hobbi will bring to the stage have been sourced from those responses to create a realistic view of dynamics and communications both within a flight department and with external customers and vendors. These scenarios will reveal the importance of having and keeping your credibility, understanding how to have successful interpersonal communication, tools for conflict resolution, and improving listening skills. This general session is for all business aviation professionals regardless of employer or job title. It is an excellent companion to the previous day’s general session where keynote speaker, Ty Bennett, discusses how Partnership is the New Leadership. For those wanting a deeper dive into engaging their team members, Bob Hobbi will also facilitate as session later in the day at 1:00 p.m. titled “The Contagiously Engaged Team.”

When you start your shift you likely follow a checklist to make sure you are prepared for all of your department’s aircraft movements that day. If spending 20 minutes at the start of each shift is not also spent familiarizing yourself with the current status of the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS) then you need to attend this session. An NBAA Air Traffic Services professional will instruct you on how to read and interpret the FAA’s airspace and airport status page known as the OIS (Operational Information system). This website is an important tool for every scheduler and flight operations personnel to use so you can proactively deal with airspace constraints and airport-specific delays. The proactive scheduler can predict potential trouble spots which can directly reduce delays to their operation that day.
