As a member of his state’s new Aviation Development Task Force, W. Ashley Smith, Jr. hopes to address the disparity between how established businesses are treated, compared to those the state is trying to lure to North Carolina. Smith said it would be easier for him to grow his existing aviation companies, which employ more than 70 people in North Carolina, if he were able to enjoy some of the incentives offered to companies looking to relocate.
