Washington, DC, April 27, 2000 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) is pleased to award the 1999 NBAA William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship to Kris David Guffey and Bill Allen Janak. These recipients each received $2,500 to further their careers in the aviation maintenance field.
Kris Guffey currently is a student at Central Missouri State University, where he is pursuing a degree in aviation technology. In his spare time, he mentors other students and is working on a commercial and instrument rating for his private pilot certificate. Guffey’s scholarship money will enable him to achieve his goals of working in a business aviation repair station and eventually performing missionary work in remote areas of the world.
Bill Janak expects to graduate from Aquinas High School in David City, NE in May 2000, and has been accepted for fall 2000 enrollment at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida. He will use his scholarship award to obtain a degree in aviation engineering or aviation maintenance technology, thereby combining his declared passion for jets and airplanes with his skill at fixing machinery.
NBAA annually awards two $2,500 scholarships to applicants who are pursuing careers as maintenance technicians. One award benefits a student who is currently enrolled in an accredited airframe and powerplant (A&P) program at an approved Part 147 school. The second award benefits an individual who currently is not enrolled but has been accepted for enrollment in an approved A&P program.
