Washington, DC, Oct. 7, 2021 – Those with inbound flights to the 2021 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) will be able to make a purchase toward the production of low-carbon sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), even if SAF is not available from their departing airport.
The offering takes shape as an innovative, market-based initiative that directly targets the increased production, availability and use of the fuels.
Called “book-and-claim,” this type of transaction is well known in several industries, including solar and other energy sectors. In the case of business aviation, operators flying to the Las Vegas convention have the option, no matter where they are in the world, to claim carbon reduction.
Operators do not consume the SAF; instead, it will be inserted by World Fuel Services into the conventional supply chain in an independent transaction, and operators will derive the environmental benefits from the SAF. The book and claim program will be administered in a collaboration with World Fuel and World Energy.
The SAF market has blossomed in recent years, and the book-and-claim model is one of several ways to match supply with demand, as businesses of all sizes prioritize ways to meet their companies’ overall sustainability objectives.
For flights outbound from NBAA-BACE, SAF will be available at Henderson Executive Airport and, for the first time, at McCarran International Airport.
“We all know that key to growing the sustainable aviation fuels market and dramatically reducing aviation emissions is to continue promoting the production, availability and use of these fuels,” said National Business Aviation Association President and CEO Ed Bolen. “Simply put, if you support book-and-claim, you’re saying ‘I want my SAF.’”
The book-and-claim initiative is just one of the industry’s many sustainability efforts, including events to promote the ground-breaking fuels, which have been held in conjunction with the World Economic Forum and at airports in Van Nuys, CA, Farnborough, UK, Geneva and Las Vegas.
