Washington, DC, June 16, 2003 – On June 12, Sue Ashley joined the NBAA Staff as its newest General Aviation (GA) Desk specialist at the FAA Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC) in Herndon, VA, where she provides NBAA Members with face-to-face representation to the FAA on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the National Airspace System. This expansion of services at the GA Desk will provide for two-shift and overlapping coverage seven days a week and allow for contingency 24-hour-a-day coverage over extended durations as required.

Ashley comes to NBAA from USAirways in Pittsburgh, PA, where she was a traffic management specialist. She also has prior experience as a dispatcher working for USAirways, USAirways Shuttle and USAirways Express/Piedmont Aviation. She holds a certificate in aircraft dispatcher and operations from Sheffield School of Aeronautics in Florida. She also has studied airway science at the University of Maryland and marketing and business at the University of Massachusetts.

NBAA established the GA Desk in August 2001 to represent the tactical aviation interests of its Member Companies to the FAA System Command Center staff and various ATC facilities throughout the United States. The GA Desk is a Member service that provides representation and participation in real-time national airspace flow control and decision-making.

The GA Desk staff not only represents the interests of NBAA Members in general, as part of their basic Membership dues, but also provides additional services on a subscription basis. Specifically, this expansion of services allows GA Desk personnel to provide real-time contact information to the FAA on “no radio” business aviation aircraft. Other security-related services are being evaluated that also will be facilitated by the expanded GA Desk coverage.

NBAA represents the aviation interests of more than 7,300 companies that own or operate general aviation aircraft as an aid to the conduct of their business, or are involved with business aviation. NBAA Member Companies earn annual revenues approaching $5 trillion — a number that is about half the gross domestic product — and employ more than 19 million people worldwide. The NBAA Annual Meeting & Convention is the world’s largest display of civil aviation products and services.
