Podcast: Real-World Perspectives on Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Aug. 31, 2020

Our industry continues to seek ways to improve upon its already noteworthy record of environmental responsibility, and chief among those efforts is promoting the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) that burn cleaner than straight Jet A. Multiple operators have flown using the alternative fuel, and while some have expressed doubts about SAF as a truly drop-in replacement, “I think by the research that’s been done, we’ve proven that most of those [concerns] don’t have validity,” notes Stewart D’Leon, director of technical operations at NBAA. “When we talk about things like microbial growth or lubricating effectiveness of the fuel, there hasn’t been anything significant there.”

In this episode of NBAA’s Flight Plan, host Rob Finfrock speaks with:

  • Steve Csonka, executive director of the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative
  • Stewart D’Leon, NBAA director of technical operations
  • John Gale, senior director of aviation at Nike
  • Chris Nielsen, aviation director for a private organization
  • Tripp Riedel, vice president for aviation at Valero

NBAA Flight Plan is sponsored by Whiting Aviation Park, ready to grow your business in Santa Rosa County, FL.
