Jan. 4, 2021

The NBAA Dr. Tony Kern Professionalism in Aviation Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professionalism and leadership in support of business aviation safety. In today’s episode, three of the nine recipients of the 2020 award discuss their individual approaches to fostering a professional mindset and culture. “Judgment is really key to what we do, and leadership is huge. And that’s what Tony [Kern] really talked about,” said 30 West IP Owner and Instructor Mitch Launius. “He talked about establishing protocols so that you could improve your judgment, working in an environment where leadership supports that. We don’t want to ever forget that.”

In this episode of NBAA’s “Flight Plan,” host Rob Finfrock speaks with:

  • Erika Armstrong, vice president of business development for Advanced Aircrew Academy and author of “A Chick in the Cockpit”
  • Christopher Bing, safety manager for RT Flight
  • Mitch Launius, owner and instructor pilot for international operations training provider 30 West IP
