Podcast: Recognizing LGBTQ+ Pride Month

June 21, 2021

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month in the U.S., a time to recognize the impact of those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or transsexual, queer and other alternative sexual and gender identities or expressions. While today’s environment is more accepting and open than it was several decades ago, members of the LGBTQ+ community working in business aviation still occasionally face challenges, showing there’s still more work to be done. “Focus on your requirements for the job and being the best you can be,” suggests Ari Sarmento, vice president of flight crew and chief pilot for Silver Air, “and then be open enough to educate and clarify for others.”

In today’s episode of NBAA’s “Flight Plan,” host Rob Finfrock speaks with:

  • Keith Deschambeault, Falcon 50 pilot and owner of Acadian Seaplanes
  • Ari Sarmento, vice president of flight crew and chief pilot for Silver Air
  • Andrew Zea, pilot for a Part 91 operation
