David Stohr

David Stohr, president and co-founder of Air Training International, and decades-long member of NBAA’s International Operators Committee, was recently presented the NBAA Silk Scarf Award for his service to the industry.

“I am honored to present Dave the Silk Scarf award in recognition of his contribution to the entire business aviation community,” NBAA Chief Operating Officer Steve Brown said. “Not only has Dave dedicated himself to the International Operators Committee for over two decades, but he has represented business aviation to the International Civil Aviation Organization for 12 years.”

Stohr is a U.S. Air Force veteran, joining the service after completing a degree in speech at South Dakota State University. Stohr served his country for 20 years as a pilot of KC-135s, U.S.A.F. E-3A (AWACS), NATO E-3A, Jetstars and Gulstream IIIs.

Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Stohr began a career in business aviation, focusing on pilot training, and specifically international operations training. In 2002, he co-founded Air Training International, where he continues to train and speak in the area of international flight operations.

Stohr is a regular contributor to NBAA’s annual International Operators Conference (IOC), assisting in agenda development and conference implementation. He has also presented at nearly every IOC since 1996.

Stohr has represented the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) at ICAO meetings as a member of the North Atlantic Region/Implementation Management working group (NAT/IMG). The NAT/IMG is responsible for recommending changes to procedures in the North Atlantic Region, as well as overseeing the implementation of the new procedures.

“Dave dedicated the first 20 years of his aviation career to serving his country in the U.S. Air Force,” said Brown. “He has committed the past 20 of his career to helping business aircraft operators and pilots conduct safe, compliant international operations, making him an exceptional recipient of the Silk Scarf.”
