June 1 marked the beginning of the 2023 hurricane season and, based on recent weather patterns, business aircraft operators could be in for some interesting months ahead. “It’s always good to have a [hurricane response] plan,” advises Daniel Brown, a meteorologist and hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Center. “In aviation it is much more complicated and difficult, but if there’s a hurricane threat, having that plan [and] knowing what you need to do is so vitally important.”
In this episode of NBAA’s “Flight Plan,” host Rob Finfrock speaks with:
- Daniel Brown, warning coordination meteorologist and senior hurricane specialist at the National Hurricane Center
- Thomas Kopp, system security operations team manager for crisis response and emergency operations, FAA Air Traffic Organization
- Dean Snell, manager, NBAA Air Traffic Services
- Kyle Struckmann, meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service (NWS) National Aviation Meteorologists at the FAA Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC)
The NBAA Flight Plan podcast, which ran from 2009 to 2025, provided an overview of important developments affecting NBAA members, and the association’s work to advocate for their interest. The archive of past episodes will remain available for your enjoyment. Please note that no new episodes will be released.
