Podcast: Preparing for the 2023 Hurricane Season

June 5, 2023

June 1 marked the beginning of the 2023 hurricane season and, based on recent weather patterns, business aircraft operators could be in for some interesting months ahead. “It’s always good to have a [hurricane response] plan,” advises Daniel Brown, a meteorologist and hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Center. “In aviation it is much more complicated and difficult, but if there’s a hurricane threat, having that plan [and] knowing what you need to do is so vitally important.”

In this episode of NBAA’s “Flight Plan,” host Rob Finfrock speaks with:
  • Daniel Brown, warning coordination meteorologist and senior hurricane specialist at the National Hurricane Center
  • Thomas Kopp, system security operations team manager for crisis response and emergency operations, FAA Air Traffic Organization
  • Dean Snell, manager, NBAA Air Traffic Services
  • Kyle Struckmann, meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service (NWS) National Aviation Meteorologists at the FAA Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC)
