California Assemblyman Ted Lieu’s (D-53) Assembly Bill 2501, if passed into law, will require the Santa Monica Municipal Airport (SMO) to monitor turbine and turbo-prop aircraft taxi and ground operations 24 hours a day for one year beginning January 1, 2007. Response to the New York Times article "Executives Take Company Planes as if Their Own" ("Gilded Paychecks" series, front page, May 10):

Contributing significantly to the national economy, state and local economies, business aviation is often an economic lifeline for areas with limited options for business transportation.
