New RNAV SIDs, STARs Coming to Cleveland, Detroit-Area Airports Sept. 13

Numerous new RNAV STARs and RNAV SIDs will be implemented Sept.13 for Cleveland and Detroit-area airports. These procedures are part of the ongoing Cleveland/Detroit Metroplex project.

Operator information regarding the new procedures:

STARs for DTW are flow dependent

• Cleveland Center will issue the appropriate STAR and ensure that aircraft can comply with the vertical constraints of the procedure.

STARs for CLE are not flow dependent

SIDs for DTW

• The top altitude for all DTW SIDs is “as assigned by ATC”
• PDC will include “Climb Via (SID) Except Maintain Seven Thousand”
• Departure controller will typically issue “Climb Via (SID) Except Maintain One Seven Thousand,” or if no downwind traffic, “Climb and Maintain One Seven Thousand”

SIDs for CLE

• The top altitude for all CLE SIDs is 14,000 feet
• PDC will include “Climb Via (SID)”

Departure handling during weather events

• When weather impacts one of more of the SIDs, Detroit Tower and Cleveland Tower may utilize radar vectors instead of the initial RNAV course
• Aircraft will be cleared direct to a fix on the RNAV procedure at or near the TRACON boundary
